Hundreds of years ago, the Manchu rulers were used to ride horses to the far north to escape the summer heat in Beijing. []

Now, we have bicycles! []

Even have we double-seat bikes. []

Bicycling in Beijing through the northeastern regions, or the Haidian District, riders can see many historic sites out off the path. Can you guess what the stone building behind the riders is? []

Is it exciting as you see something that your counterparts have never known before? []

This stone tower once was part of the Manchu military training base. []

The military training base was built in 1749. It's the only imperial military complex existing in China today. The complex includes a castle, palaces, pavilioons, towers, drill grounds and more.

Many royal parks and mountains are located in the northwest part of Beijing, or Haidian District. Explore more places! []
