Programme Introduction

This is a fictional story of true love:

Young artist Quange and embroiderer Yue'er fall in love with each other, but she is seized by Master Gu, the local tyrant. The wall of Gu's house does not stop their love, and Quange does whatever he can to reunite with his sweetheart. Yue'er kills Gu by accident and flees his house. She joins Quange, and they pledge undying love. At the funeral, Gu's mother blinds Quange in revenge for her son, shedding his blood on him and his musical instrument - erhu. Life turns into spirit, and pursuit turns into eternal youth. In the distinct theme of erhu melody The Moon Reflected in Er-quan Spring, holy fairies awaken Quange, and Yue'er arrives, treading on flowers by the stream...

The ballet The Moon Reflected in the Er-quan Spring, is acclaimed as a milestone of Chinese ballets, blowing a fresh wind to the long-dormant creation of national ballet.
